Come when you can and lend a hand!

If you love being outdoors and enjoy our beautiful recreational areas as much as we do, put on those running shoes, grab some gardening gloves, pack up your inspiration and land your ambition at the Maka'eo Walking Path in the Old Kona Airport Recreation Area! 


Every Thursday from 8:30am to 11am you can get active with Friends For Fitness by volunteering for an hour or two in a relaxing outdoor, hands-on, learning opportunity that's focused on improving our local recreation area.

Meet at the Maka'eo Walking Path in the Old Kona Airport Recreation Area.  The walking path is located on the right side of the runway just past the Kailua Kona Skate Park.


Make A Donation

Friends For Fitness is able to care for our local Maka'eo Walking Path areas through the help of volunteers and your donations.  Your donation provides Friends For Fitness with the tools, supplies, plants, exercise equipment, events, resources, and educational opportunities that benefit our community.

Adopt A Garden

Adopt a garden area along the Maka'eo Walking Path to help beautify our local community area.  Spread some joy by creating a space that is unique to you while improving a community space that is enjoyed and seen by many.  Volunteering to care for a garden area is a great way to be physically active and stay healthy!  Do it for you while doing it for all.


Adopting a garden area is hard work.  It requires weeding, planting, watering, landscaping, and regular maintenance.  However, volunteering comes with great appreciation, fulfillment, and positive health benefits.  Become a Friends For Fitness garden adoptee today!

Adopting a Garden

  • Volunteer Work (Care for your garden area during your free time and on your schedule.)

  • Maintain your garden area at your own pace and without judgement.  Friends For Fitness is a great resource for promoting a healthy lifestyle.

  • Adopt a garden area for a minimum of 3 months or longer. (No obligations, but we do ask you to take pride in your garden and stick with it for at least 3 months.  Your time and effort is very much appreciated!)

  • Take part in the Friends For Fitness group activities if possible.(i.e. Helping other volunteers in their garden area, or volunteering to help out with a community event at the path.)

Please feel free to contact Betty at 808-329-5519.  You'll set up a time to meet with her at the path, choose a garden to adopt, and fill out an agreement form.
